Advocacy: Countering Media Misrepresentation & Backing Members
In February, a long-standing, active TRSA member called to alert us to breaking regional news coverage announcing a lawsuit against their company, implying that the healthcare linens they processed contributed to patient deaths at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC). These news reports were generated by a letter from two patients’ families’ (plaintiffs’) attorney, citing a recently obtained report commissioned by UPMC of the member’s facilities, despite a joint investigation by the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the Pennsylvania Department of Health (PADoH) that found no link between clean linens and the patient deaths.
