Beyond Hygienically Clean—Linens as a Vector for Spreading HAIs

It’s long been thought that if textiles were properly laundered, they would be free of bacteria and other potentially harmful organisms. Much of that statement still holds true today. But as our technology and understanding of the spread of infection increases, so too does our awareness that much more needs to be taken into consideration. With recent trends and increased attention to healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), hospitals are under greater scrutiny than ever before to reduce the incidence of infection. Laundry operations with a healthcare focus also are faced with that challenge, but they can use it to their advantage.
