ILUD formally began in 2021, marking Aug. 9 as the day for recognizing the unsung heroes behind clean linens and uniforms. But why this date? On Aug. 9, 1910, Alva J. Fisher patented “Thor,” the first electric-powered washing machine. This invention revolutionized commerce worldwide, making commercial laundering an essential service for various industries.
