Coming Back from Katrina
Though the Gulf Coast region is well into this year’s hurricane season, it is still not past 2005. The scars that cut into the community’s landscape and its psyche are still visible even nine months after Katrina devastated the area. The economy still is in recovery.
“Whole businesses were vaporized,” David Gross, president of Gulf Coast Laundry Services in Gulfport, MS, says, attempting to describe the impact of Hurricane Katrina to a recent TRSA visitor. “There are whole areas that are just gone. You really can’t comprehend the disaster unless you see it firsthand.”
