Continuous Improvement—Developing Standard Operating Procedures
In January’s Textile Services, I wrote an article “The Benefits of a Quality Manual,” that describes why an organization may want to create a Quality Manual, its purpose, scope, structure and content. The article describes a hierarchy of documentation that encompasses the levels of documents in a Quality Management System. Level 1 is the highest. It includes policies, regulatory compliance, organizational structure, and corporate statements such as Mission, Vision and Values. Level 2 is procedures which describe the “What” and “Who” of an organization—that is, who is responsible for what activities. Level 3 is Work Instructions, which answers the “How.” ...
