As someone who learned to type on a manual typewriter, it’s astonishing to think what changes have taken place in the relatively short span since the World Wide Web emerged some 20 years ago. For younger people, like my teenage daughter, social networking with her 700-odd Facebook ‘friends’ is the norm, though the vast majority of these contacts are limited to online exchanges.
