Disaster Prevention—Options for Eliminating Lint
The risks of combustible dust and lint are not new. In 2003 alone, there were three catastrophic dust explosions that killed 14 workers. While these incidents didn’t occur in laundries, excessive lint accumulation is an acknowledged fire hazard that can endanger people and property.
In response to the aforementioned fatalities, the Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board (CSB) took charge. They issued a report in 2006 that identified 285 separate combustible-dust incidents between 1980 and 2005 that killed a total of 119 employees and injured 718.
