When Baby Boomers took a job, it was often for life, or at least 20-plus years. As a Generation Xer, it was anticipated that I would have four or five jobs during my career. The latest generation is expected to have 10-plus jobs during their careers. Employee turnover is expensive, costing companies nearly 150% of a worker’s salary. Coupled with a growing skills gap and rapidly changing technology, it benefits both businesses and employees to work together to identify opportunities to increase retention through management development and mentoring.
