Employers Beware: EEOC Heightens Scrutiny

Be diligent about keeping records of job applicants, even applicants who never get hired. That’s the message that the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) is sending to employers through recent actions that the agency has taken in discrimination cases.
 
In October the EEOC approved an updated Strategic Enforcement Plan (SEP) for fiscal years 2017 to 2021, setting out its priorities and strategies for the near term. One of its priorities is addressing employers’ failure to maintain and retain applicant and employee data and records required by regulation.
