Energy Efficiency in Hospitality Laundries

At September’s Joint Committee Meeting in St. Louis, I gave a presentation on conserving plant resources. This article features excerpts from that talk. Most, if not all, of the recommendations offered below are applicable to most any laundry operation. 
 
Wastewater heat recovery
 
Typically, the boiler uses about 65% of the total natural gas used in a plant. Furthermore, about 65% of the gas consumed by the boiler goes to water heating. Therefore about 42% of the total gas goes to heating water.
