Several years ago, studies conducted on the distribution of jobs in most laundries made clear one very important statistic—a full 60% or more of the employees worked in and around the flatwork ironer! Talk about where the money is concentrated—Wow!
 
Today, that percentage probably has lessened somewhat, due to the advent of several automated, laborsaving machines such as the picker, spreader, folder, stacker and conveyor. Even so, that means there are still great expenditures in and around the flatwork ironer, due to the investment in energy, machinery, parts and maintenance, as well as operations.
