Healthcare—In Living Color

The June 1975 Linen Supply News featured an article that introduced readers to a passel of trends at a Pittsburgh hospital that described itself by the then-novel term, Healthcare Maintenance Organization (HMO). Preventive care was the mission of this all-purpose institution, dubbed “One Door”: patients would pay a flat fee up front to cover them for check-ups and other treatments.
