Keep On Trucking—Laundries Battle Driver Shortage
Commercial laundries must compete with other industries for delivery truck drivers. And the competition right now is fierce.
Currently, the shortage of truck drivers nationwide is at roughly 60,000; that figure is expected to grow to 100,000 in the next few years, according to American Trucking Associations.
Driver pay is rising to meet demand and will continue to do so, says Don Lefeve, president and CEO of the Commercial Vehicle Training Association (CVTA). “But it’s not simply one of these things where if you just paid everybody more you wouldn’t have a driver shortage.”
