After a tumultuous few months in politics, Canadians went to the polls on April 28. The result saw the Liberal Party led by new Prime Minister Mark Carney secure the opportunity to govern for another term in office.

The result was a major shift from the picture painted by public opinion polling when the previous Prime Minister (PM), Justin Trudeau, was leading the Liberal Party. For more than a year the Conservatives, led by Pierre Poilievre, had a wide lead over the Liberals with voters indicating a strong desire for change, particularly driven by concerns about affordability.
