OSHA Ponders Changes To Lockout/Tagout Rule

The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) decision to review lockout/tagout regulations comes at the same time the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) nears issuing a revised voluntary consensus standard in 2016.
 
The hope is that the changes to the lockout/tagout rule will give commercial laundry plant managers more options. Instead of shutting down entire processing lines by cutting off a machine’s power source, an equivalent level of safety is possible by controlling power for the section of machine that needs to be stopped while tasks are performed.
