A significant portion of the planet is in the grip of a manufacturing revolution, a hungry giant of a boom with a ravenous appetite for industrial commodities. This trend has fueled a result that’s instantly recognizable to anyone familiar with basic economics. As demand has surged, supply has dwindled, pushing prices ever higher. Petroleum costs are at an all-time high, as are many of the metals used in manufacturing, including copper and—especially—stainless steel.
