People-Based Safety Achieving a Total Safety Culture

A Total Safety Culture (TSC) exists when everyone in an organization does everything reasonably possible to prevent injuries and incidents. One of the most effective ways to achieve this is to allow, encourage and recognize employee engagement in the culture. People-Based Safety (PBS) processes are the best way to achieve this. PBS refers to a broad category of interventions (e.g., processes, programs, strategies, tactics) where PBS principles of psychology are applied to change the culture (whether in safety, quality, reliability, production, customer service or performance management).
