Reusable Future: Shaken By Shortages, Hospitals Rethink Isolation Gown Options
Hospitals seeking personal protective equipment (PPE)—particularly isolation gowns—faced a supply chain crisis in the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic. A year later, those shortages now have largely dissipated, according to laundry operators recently contacted by Textile Services. But while reusable “iso gowns” have helped to alleviate the supply crunch facing hospitals needing up to 30 iso gowns a day per COVID patient, a mix of reusable and disposable PPE now appears to be the emerging model for many hospitals.
