In the coming year, we can expect a growth of interest in our industry. While the EPA has chosen not to regulate with Categorical Standards on wastewater discharges, they have said they will study sources of endocrine disruptors. Specifically, they will view pharmaceuticals discharged from the healthcare industry. Since we are already identified as an endocrine disruptor source through EPA’s Safe Detergents Stewardship Initiative’s (SDSI) efforts to reduce the use of NPE-based detergents, it’s likely we’ll be included in this analysis.
