Streamlined ’55 Flatwork Finisher
Fifty-two years ago, Troy Laundry Machinery introduced its Speedline flatwork ironer, a behemoth designed to produce faster dewrinkling speed. Operating at speeds of up to 115 feet a minute, the new ironer could process 15%-20% more flatwork per hour, the manufacturer said.
The faster speed was made possible by oversized, 13 5/8-inch rolls; a greater chest area; and operation on 125 lbs. of steam pressure. The ironer, shown above in the January 1955 Linen Supply News, made it easier to process large items and required workers to both feed the machine and unload it.
