After watching the results of the recent presidential and congressional elections, one might slip into complacency regarding participation in the political process. Republicans managed impressive gains in Congress and unseated a prominent Democrat, former Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle (SD). Some view President George W. Bush’s victory by over 3 million votes as a mandate for his second-term agenda. One positive sign is that Congress recently confirmed David Safavian, the administration’s nominee to monitor the competitive-sourcing agenda.
