As we begin a new year, most observers agree that healthcare is the textile service industry’s top growth area. Of course that’s not to say it’s easy, or that any operator—no matter how well established—has a lock on success. Few understand the challenges posed by the healthcare sector better than Ed McCauley, president/CEO of United Hospital Services (UHS), Indianapolis. His 113,000 square-foot plant processes 38.5 million lbs. annually and is enjoying robust growth (for details, see pgs. 28–34).
