“Dryers are a laundry’s energy hogs!” many laundry operators and industry authorities exclaim with exasperation. Dryers naturally consume massive quantities of energy while performing their intended functions. Some operators feel that efficient drying will occur “when pigs fly.” Like living beings, dryers “are what they eat.” This means that dryer performance values aren’t carved in stone but, vary with how they are operated. Operators can restrain these hogs by thoughtfully changing operational conditions. Improved output and economics requires understanding the variables on which these units feed.
