How do “teambuilding” efforts, such as donating time to charitable causes, help improve staff morale?

"It’s my belief that a team becomes stronger the more time they spend working together. When a team works together for the benefit of others, it substantially improves overall team morale. I was able to observe this during a recent Habitat for Humanity build. Our sales team worked together to build homes for families struggling and needing a helping hand at the time.
