Transgender Restroom Access—OSHA Reminder
Recently, public officials and the news media have focused a great deal of attention on the issue of restroom accessibility for transgender workers. OSHA’s Sanitation Standard, Section 1910.141 requires employers to provide employees with toilet facilities. Last year, OSHA issued “A Guide to Restroom Accessibility for Transgender Workers.”
In this publication, OSHA directs that all employees, including transgender employees, should have access to restrooms that correspond to their gender identity. It won’t suffice to have transgender employees use a “unisex” restroom.
