TRSA has received approval from the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), a nationally recognized standards accreditation organization, to move forward in seeking accreditation as an ANSI-recognized standards developer for its Hygienically Clean Healthcare Certification program.
Approval follows TRSA’s submission of a letter of intent outlining its standards development process and interest in pursuing ANSI accreditation. TRSA will now submit a formal application demonstrating that its standards-development procedures for its Hygienically Clean Certification program meet ANSI’s Essential Requirements for openness, balance, due process and consensus.
“TRSA has long been a leader in advancing best practices that help our members follow the industry’s highest standards for cleanliness, sustainability and safety,” said TRSA President & CEO Joseph Ricci. “Pursuing ANSI accreditation of our Hygienically Clean Certification program reflects our commitment to developing standards through a transparent, consensus-based process that enhances confidence in the value of our programs. It is one more opportunity to ensure our members provide healthcare facilities with reusable textiles that meet high standards for quality and patient safety.”
Samlane Ketevong, TRSA’s senior director of certification and accreditation, said that, “This is an important milestone in the history of the Hygienically Clean program. Aligning our standards with ANSI’s recognized development framework reinforces the credibility of the certification and helps ensure it continues to reflect industry expertise, stakeholder input and the highest expectations for hygienically clean healthcare textiles. We look forward to working with the team at ANSI as this important accreditation process continues to unfold.”
Background
The Hygienically Clean Healthcare Certification program establishes rigorous standards for processing reusable healthcare textiles through documented best-management practices (BMPs), independent third-party audits and ongoing microbiological testing. Facilities seeking certification must demonstrate compliance with comprehensive operational standards, successfully complete an onsite audit and meet quantified microbiological testing requirements. Certified facilities continue quarterly testing and periodic audits to verify ongoing compliance.
ANSI is a private, nonprofit organization that administers and coordinates the U.S. voluntary standards and conformity assessment system. While ANSI does not develop standards itself, it accredits organizations that demonstrate their standards-development procedures meet established principles for openness, balance, consensus and due process. ANSI’s accreditation framework helps ensure that American National Standards are developed through a fair, transparent and consensus-driven process recognized across industries.
