TRSA will convene industry leaders in Ottawa on April 27–28 for the Canadian Legislative Conference, a key advocacy event designed to elevate the linen, uniform and facility services industry’s voice with national policymakers. TRSA encourages operators and supplier partners with operations in Canada to attend and engage directly with federal policymakers on issues affecting the industry.
The two-day program will provide participants the opportunity to meet with federal officials, share operational perspectives and highlight the essential role reusable textiles and professional laundry services play in Canada’s economy. Participants also will attend a question-and-answer session with Prime Minister Mark Carney, offering the opportunity to hear directly from Canada’s top political leader on issues affecting business growth and economic policy.
The conference begins April 27 with an issue briefing and networking reception, followed by meetings with Members of Parliament on April 28. During these meetings, participants will discuss several policy priorities affecting the industry, including:
- Accelerated Capital Cost Allowance provisions affecting tax depreciation for equipment investments
- Inter-provincial trade barriers that complicate cross-border business operations, particularly those related to:
- Mutual recognition of professional credentials to improve mobility for skilled workers
- Trucking regulations, including driver certification requirements
- PPE labeling and regulatory standards, particularly for high-visibility garments
- Environmental regulations, including emerging policies related to PFAS and plastics in textiles
By bringing operators face-to-face with policymakers, the event helps ensure lawmakers understand how tax policy, trade rules, workforce regulations and environmental standards affect the companies that supply reusable linens, uniforms and facility services across Canada.
