Canadian Member of Parliament Tours HLS Linen Services

TRSA joined HLS Linen Services on June 30 in Woodbridge, Ontario to welcome Canadian Member of Parliament Sandra Cobena for a facility tour and discussion on the importance of Canada’s linen, uniform and facility services industry.

During the visit, MP Cobena toured HLS’s operations and saw firsthand the specialized equipment, technology and large-scale processing systems required to professionally launder and maintain reusable textiles. HLS provides critical linen and laundry services to healthcare and other customers across Ontario and Western Quebec.

The tour also provided an opportunity to discuss the capital-intensive nature of industrial laundering and the importance of federal policies that encourage investment in Canadian facilities, equipment and processing capacity.

The visit comes as TRSA continues to expand its advocacy efforts in Canada. In April, TRSA brought industry leaders to Parliament Hill in Ottawa for its Canadian Legislative Conference, providing members with an opportunity to engage directly with federal policymakers on key issues affecting the industry.

A central focus of TRSA’s recent advocacy has been seeking recognition of the industry’s operations as a manufacturing or processing activity under Canada’s Capital Cost Allowance framework. Following the April meetings, TRSA and Canadian members continued the effort through a June 4 meeting with the Office of the Minister of Finance. Recognition under the appropriate tax framework would help support greater capital investment in the specialized equipment and infrastructure required to operate modern industrial laundry facilities.

Facility tours such as the visit to HLS are an important extension of these advocacy efforts, allowing policymakers to see the industry’s operations firsthand and better understand its economic and operational importance.
