After 23 years of service at CITY Laundering Co., Oelwein, IA, Marie Suhr recently announced her retirement.

Suhr started at CITY in September 2001 in the production department, and she said what drew her in was the four-day work week.

“I always liked coming in to work at CITY because I got to work with people that have always been good to me,” Suhr said.

Suhr worked in many different areas on the CITY Oelwein production floor, from hanging clean clothes to mending existing uniforms. “My favorite position at CITY was doing the actual mending and sewing,” Suhr said. “I really liked helping the route guys and getting things out for the customer. I also really enjoyed the special events like the family picnics, Christmas parties and the 100-year anniversary event where I helped take photos at the event.”

Over the years, Suhr said she enjoys going to auctions and if she ever saw an item with CITY on it, she said she made sure to grab it and she started her very own CITY collection. To date, Suhr has more than 100 items that have the CITY brand on them, which may be one of the largest collections out there, she noted.

“I enjoy collecting items for a company I work for because CITY is a part of who I am,” Suhr said. “I am proud to work for a company like CITY all these years.”
