TRSA Network Connections virtual roundtable discussions dedicated to management of various linen, uniform and facility services functions return June 17. That session will cover information technology; the next, June 24, will address priorities for general managers.

Both sessions are scheduled for Tuesdays from 1 to 2:30 p.m. EDT and will take place on Zoom. TRSA members can participate at no charge. Click here to register for the IT session and here for the GM discussion.

Connections roundtables capture a variety of perspectives on issues facing the key work functions in linen and uniform service operations. They’re not webinars – attendees are the experts sharing experience and expertise with the group by answering discussion moderators’ questions. To encourage frankness, sessions are not recorded.

TRSA’s IT Committee will program the June 17 roundtable, planning to cover:

Results from artificial-intelligence implementation. Participants will mention which AI-powered tools have been implemented in linen and uniform service operations and administration, noting efficiency gains. They’ll be asked about how they evaluate new AI technologies before adopting them and if any they adopted didn’t meet expectations.

Data-driven decision-making. They’ll be asked about what types of operational or administrative data are most valuable; how they’re collecting, managing and visualizing this data; and their biggest challenges in accessing or leveraging it.

Tech teams: in-house vs. outsourced. A company may be 100 percent dedicated to one of these extremes or the other, or use a hybrid model. Moderators will ask about pros and cons of these current setups and how participants ensure responsiveness, security and innovation with their IT support models.

The GM Connections roundtable will enable participants to compare perspectives on increasingly contentious industry operations issues with those of a sampling of GMs from around the industry. GMs will see how their view of the issues contrasts with observations of specialists in other professions in linen, uniform and facility services. Attendees will get ideas for short-term tactics and long-term strategies for addressing the industry’s toughest management challenges.

Emphasis will be on coordinating the range of roles that comprise plant operations: jobs that serve customers from the office, plant and service center to their locations. You’ll ponder how GMs lead, follow or get out of the way of their teams on:

Customer issues. Complaints, inventory control, invoicing/accounts receivable, sales prospecting, service agreements.

Legal/compliance. Accounting/financial standards, environmental, facility/infrastructure, fleet-related.
