TRSA hosted a June 17 Network Connections event focused on Information Technology (IT). The virtual roundtable brought together industry professionals to share insights on IT strategies, technology adoption and innovation across operations.

Key topics included:

IT Support Models: In-House vs. Outsourced: Participants discussed their current IT support structures, including fully in-house, outsourced and hybrid models. Several attendees shared their experiences transitioning to in-house IT to improve responsiveness and control. Others highlighted the benefits of outsourcing, such as cost savings and access to specialized expertise. The group emphasized the importance of aligning IT models with organizational needs and long-term goals.

Current Technology Landscape: The conversation explored the use of advanced technologies like radio-frequency identification (RFID) and artificial intelligence (AI). While some participants were still evaluating the value of RFID, others shared successful implementations that improved tracking and operational efficiency. AI applications were also discussed, including tools for administrative automation and employee training. The variety of experiences reflected the different stages of digital transformation across organizations.

Future Outlook & Innovation: Looking ahead, the group discussed emerging technologies such as AI, automation and the Internet of Things (IoT). Participants shared how they are using AI-powered tools for tasks like driver monitoring, employee training simulations, and call-center analytics. There was strong interest in platforms that use AI to create real-world training scenarios. The discussion also addressed data governance, privacy and the need for clear frameworks to manage AI responsibly.
