TRSA’s government relations team recently outlined key issues impacting the linen, uniform and facility services industry for participants attending TRSA’s Laundry Hill Day on Feb. 19 in Washington, DC.

The briefing was led by Kevin Schwalb, TRSA’s vice president of government relations, and Sean Kearney, TRSA’s advocacy manager. During the hour-long Zoom meeting, the duo prepared attendees for the schedule, logistics, issues and expectations surrounding the event.

Two primary policy issues were noted on the call:

  1. Reusable Healthcare Textiles: TRSA seeks congressional support in urging the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to release a long‑awaited study on the benefits of reusable healthcare textiles. The study, originally promised for release in October 2024, remains unpublished as of February 2026. Attendees are asked to request that legislators co‑sign a draft letter to Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. pressing for its release.
  2. Qualified Production Property (QPP) Tax Classification: TRSA is advocating for the linen, uniform and facility services industry to be recognized as performing “substantial transformation” under a new provision established in HR 1, enabling businesses to qualify for 100% bonus depreciation of production‑related capital expenditures. Attendees will ask legislators to urge the U.S. Department of the Treasury to provide clear guidance affirming laundry operations meet the QPP standard.

TRSA’s 16th Annual Legislative Conference & Industry Awards Dinner takes place Feb. 17-19 at the Royal Sonesta Capitol Hill. It starts the first afternoon (Tuesday) with a symposium for suppliers featuring consultant presentations on generational change and value-driven relationships. TRSA committees open the Feb. 18 agenda, enabling every member to join discussions on how to improve the association’s work.

Later that afternoon, attendees will prepare for Laundry Hill Day on Feb. 19. In small-group visits to congressional offices on Thursday, members will personally engage legislators and their staffs. They’ll share insightful stories about the industry, addressing the industry’s key legislative priorities. They’ll also emphasize its economic impacts, cleanliness, sustainability and workplace safety contributions. The Feb. 18 agenda concludes with the Annual Industry Awards Dinner.
