A contest among participants in a Dec. 9 TRSA Network Connections roundtable will foster their discussion of how local wage levels affect plant employee recruiting and retention. Contestants at this virtual event for General Managers will be challenged to surmise how the industry’s wages have shifted in their business locations as defined by metropolitan area, county or state, according to TRSA-accessed data.
The closer a contestant’s response to these numbers, the more likely the contestant will win cash, as points will be scored relative to other contestants doing the same regarding their local markets.
To get into the game and ensuing discussion, click here to register by Friday, Nov. 28 to be eligible for the contest. The number of contestants selected depends on how many registrants enter their location data and company industrial/linen mix on the online registration form. When a registrant whose company operates in multiple locations enters this data, it must be for one location only.
Your first step is to input into the Connections online registration form the metropolitan area, county and state for a location where your company operates, so you can be asked during the event about the industry’s wage trends for any or all of these geographies as they apply to the location. If your company operates in multiple locations, you’ll need to pick one when you register.
The Connections roundtable, slated to run from 1 to 2 p.m. EST, will begin with this competition. The rest of the hour will be dedicated to participants’ sharing experience with setting wages to achieve goals such as:
- Lower employee turnover
- Recruitment of better talent
- Enhanced competitiveness for recruiting plant employees
- Internal wage equity between different roles and tenure levels
- Budget goals and other metrics for determining total labor expenditures
- More reliable sources for benchmarking prevailing local wages
- Proper mix of other types of cash compensation and non-monetary benefits
