TRSA has submitted formal comments to the U.S. Department of Commerce as part of its Section 232 National Security Investigation on imports of personal protective equipment (PPE), medical consumables and medical devices.
The investigation seeks to evaluate how foreign dependence on these products affects U.S. national security and supply chain preparedness. In its submission, TRSA highlighted the essential role its members play in protecting healthcare and other workers through the processing, delivery, and maintenance of reusable textiles and protective garments.
TRSA’s comments emphasized the need to strengthen U.S. medical supply chain resilience and reduce the nation’s dependence on imported, single-use PPE. TRSA urged the department to focus on policies that support domestic production and processing, create consistent demand for U.S.-made protective equipment and provide clear federal guidance on the use of reusable PPE. By advancing these measures, TRSA noted that the U.S. can build a more sustainable and secure PPE infrastructure capable of supporting both healthcare operations and national emergency readiness.
