TRSA President and CEO Joseph Ricci was recently quoted in a Fox News article highlighting growing concerns over the home laundering of healthcare uniforms. The article, “Why your laundry could be making you sick and what to do about it,” explores findings from a new study conducted in collaboration with De Montfort University Leicester, TRSA and the Textile Services Association.
Ricci warns that bringing scrubs home and washing them in a household machine could “jeopardize the health and safety of frontline healthcare workers, patients and families,” noting that home laundering doesn’t always eliminate bacteria and other dangerous pathogens. “The best way to protect both patients and workers,” he adds, “is for hospitals and other healthcare facilities to partner with a professional laundry service that can supply hygienically clean, reusable scrubs, textiles and PPE.” Read the full article.
