Metro Laundry Service hosted U.S. Rep. Glenn Ivey (D-MD) at its facility in Capitol Heights, MD, on Oct. 22 for an in-depth tour and discussion highlighting the company’s growth, workforce impact and continued commitment to serving customers throughout the region. Rep. Ivey represents Maryland’s Fourth Congressional District, which wraps around the eastern edge of Washington, DC, taking in most of Prince George’s County and a small portion of Montgomery County.

The visit was led by Metro’s executive leadership team, including Bernard Young, founder and CEO; Steven Young, COO; and Richard Burney, business development director. The group provided Rep. Ivey with a firsthand look at the company’s operations while sharing the story of Metro Laundry Service’s evolution over nearly 25 years in business. The company was founded in 2002.

During the tour, the company leaders discussed the challenges and milestones that have shaped Metro’s success, from its founding and expansion to navigating unprecedented disruptions serving the hospitality/hotel market during the COVID-19 pandemic. They also outlined opportunities for future growth and investment, emphasizing the commitment to meeting customer needs while continuing to strengthen the company’s presence in the region.

A key focus of the discussion was Metro’s role as a local employer and economic contributor in Prince George’s County. The leadership team highlighted that approximately 95% of the company’s workforce resides in Prince George’s Country, underscoring the direct impact the business has on local families and the surrounding community.

The conversation also illustrated the resilience of family-owned businesses and the importance of policies that support workforce development, economic growth and expansion. By seeing operations firsthand and speaking directly with employees, Rep. Ivey gained additional insight into the investments, innovation and dedicated workforce required to run a modern linen, uniform and facility services operation.

TRSA appreciates Metro Laundry Service for hosting Rep. Ivey and showcasing the many ways the industry contributes to jobs, economic development, and essential services throughout Maryland and across the country.
