Michael Potack has received an Honorary Associate of Humane Letters degree from Hostos Community College, Bronx, NY, recognizing his legacy of support for Hostos and higher education in the South Bronx.
Potack is chairman, Unitex Healthcare Laundry Services, Elmsford, NY, and a TRSA Lifetime Achievement award winner. Visibly moved at the ceremony, he was “grateful and humbled” to accept the honor. The presentation took place May 28 at the college’s 55th Commencement Ceremonies.
In May 2024, Potack and his family established the largest endowed scholarship gift in the history of Hostos, which will ultimately be nearly half a million dollars and fund countless scholarships for students in Hostos’ registered nurse (RN) program, year after year, in perpetuity.
Hostos offers Associate in Arts (AA) and Associate in Science (AS), degree programs that prepare students for transfer to four-year colleges upon graduation from Hostos. Also offered are Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree programs that prepare students for specific careers.
The nursing program leads to an AAS for eligible students by completing five semesters of study. This prepares them to become registered nurses via satisfactory performance on the National Council Licensure Examination-Registered Nurse (NCLEX-RN). Hostos’ educational opportunities serve students seeking entry or mobility within a nursing career path as a licensed practical nurse and/or licensed professional nurse (RN-AAS).
