Baltimore Washington International (BWI) Airport’s restrooms recently earned the title of America’s Best Restroom® in a competition sponsored by Cintas Corp., Mason, OH, according to a news release.
“We’re honored to be recognized by Cintas and contest voters for our commitment to providing a positive passenger experience and outstanding facilities,” said Ricky Smith, executive director/CEO of BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport, located nine miles south of downtown Baltimore. “Passengers rank restrooms as an airport’s No. 1 amenity. That’s why we work so hard to provide creative, clean and inviting restrooms to make travel more enjoyable.”
Cintas announced the winner of its Best Restroom Contest on Sept. 28, based on a nationwide poll from July 11-Aug. 11. BWI took top honors among 10 finalists. As the contest winner, BWI airport staff will receive a Cintas UltraClean® restroom cleaning service and $2,500 in Cintas products and services for restroom cleaning or facility management, the release said.
Now in its 22nd year, the Best Restroom Contest celebrates innovative and hygienic public restrooms across the U.S. Selection criteria for nominees include cleanliness, visual appeal, innovation, functionality and unique design elements. Cintas’ Marketing Manager Julia Walsh said that the appearance of public restrooms plays a key role in an organization’s image. “The state of their public restrooms can have a large impact on the public’s perception of a business,” Walsh said. “The BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport restrooms are bright and airy and the embodiment of clean, with natural light and room for luggage. We’re proud to crown them as America’s Best Restroom.”
The BWI restrooms feature bright, spacious fully enclosed stalls, color-changing LED occupancy lights, digital signage at entrances showing current availability and other “smart restroom system” features, the release said.
