Business intelligence consultants serving the hotel and restaurant industries will be featured Sept. 16 at TRSA’s Hospitality and F&B Conference in Boston. They’ll acquaint attendees with revenue growth and cost control trend lines in these industries relevant to linen, uniform and facility services.

Covering the hotel business will be Didio Pequeno (in photo at left), hospitality market analytics director for CoStar Group, Arlington, VA. He’ll share insights on how that industry is changing, drawing on the firm’s resources for:

Supply & Demand Forecasting: CoStar tracks hotel occupancy, average daily rate and revenue per available room, factors affecting our industry’s inventory turnover projection and wash-load volumes.

Pipeline Targeting: Drawing on his firm’s data on active hotel construction, room additions and upcoming openings, you’ll get ideas for planning to secure new service agreements early.

Asset Class Segmentation: Through Pequeno’s references to various hotel service levels, you’ll consider new approaches to different pitchers for segments from luxury resorts (high-turnover premium linens) to extended-stay properties (durable, high-volume terry).

Market Benchmarking: Evaluate regional tourism health and market demand to help property operators adjust inventory par levels dynamically.

Victor Fernandez (in photo at right), chief insights officer, Black Box Intelligence, Dallas, will deliver a similar session on the restaurant business:

Macro-Traffic Trends: You’ll hear the latest on same-store sales and guest traffic across restaurant segments, another plus for forecasting linen volume fluctuations.

Geographic Expansion: Get clues on how our industry’s regional sales reps could be relocated to areas where restaurant units and chains are actively growing.

Segment Health: Better understand the specific market forces affecting industry segments to vary promotion to full-service vs. limited-service establishments.

Labor And Cost Pressures: Identify operator margin constraints to tailor linen rental pricing and inventory flexibility.

Hosting the TRSA event will be the Embassy Suites Boston Waltham. Sessions begin at 8 a.m. on Sept. 16 with Daniel Friedman, global partnerships head for Viam, a New York-based software platform for advanced robotics and automation. He’ll build attendees’ literacy in the scientific lexicon of robotics. Understanding of such lingo is viewed as critical for laundry operators to decide when this technology is right for their businesses.

Sessions throughout that day will provide insights into hotel and restaurant linen and uniform needs in separate breakout sessions. General sessions will cover product mix expansion and linen quality as well as staging a panel of linen service executives:

  • Richard Marzo, VP, Lace House Linen Supply, Petaluma, CA
  • Philip Sharpe, CEO, United Hospitality Services, Austell, GA
  • Ryan Swartz, senior VP, PureStar Group, Las Vegas

On Sept. 17, attendees will tour the Crown Uniform and Linen Service processing facility in Brockton, MA, which supports service departments in Nashua, NH; and Windsor and Milford, CT.
