As robotics technology takes hold in laundry production, linen and uniform service management is pressed to build literacy in its scientific lexicon. Help is on the way at the upcoming TRSA Hospitality and F&B Conference, which features an executive at the forefront of deploying advanced robotics and automation solutions across industries, platforms and geographies.
From concepts such as actuators and axis interference to zero-force control and zero position/return, understanding of key robot A to Z lingo is viewed as critical for laundry operators to decide when this technology is right for their businesses. Daniel Friedman, the opening presenter on Sept. 16 at the TRSA conference in Boston, will build your literacy in robotics fundamentals.
Friedman is the global partnerships head for Viam, a New York-based software platform for advanced robotics and automation, dedicated to accelerating and enabling adoption and deployment of robotics and automation at scale. Prior to Viam, he was the strategic partnerships global director for Teradyne Robotics, owner of Universal Robots and Mobile Industrial Robots. Both are headquartered in Odense, Denmark, sharing a joint 20,000-square-meter robotics hub. Universal is hailed for pioneering safe, user-friendly collaborative robot arms (cobots) that operate without safety fences. MiR is recognized for revolutionizing internal logistics with flexible, autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) that navigate via onboard maps instead of physical floor tracks.
Friedman previously was Universal’s commercial strategy global director. His presentation will lend clues to key questions facing linen and uniform operations today. Namely, how can this technology:
- Reshape material handling?
- Produce error-free work?
- Scale for growth?
Other questions Friedman will lead you to consider:
- What types of robots will be available and cost-effective?
- When would it be sensible for your company to invest?
- What works today, and what still needs refinement?
The presentation will enable you to grasp issues in robotics development from a manufacturer’s perspective: developments that prevent common setup pitfalls and other imperfections. You’ll get a candid look at what can and cannot yet be delivered.
Hosting the TRSA event will be the Embassy Suites Boston Waltham, with Friedman’s presentation starting the event at 8 a.m. on Sept. 16. Sessions throughout that day will provide insights into hotel and restaurant linen and uniform needs in separate breakout sessions. General sessions will cover product mix expansion and linen quality as well as staging a panel of linen service executives including:
