Rep. Miller-Meeks Visits Phelps in Muscatine

Phelps Uniform Specialists hosted U.S. Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks, M.D. (R-Iowa) this week in Muscatine, Iowa, for a firsthand look at the role linen, uniform and facility services companies play in local economies and essential supply chains.

Phelps provides uniforms, PPE, facility supplies and related workplace services to customers across Iowa and the broader Midwest. As a family-owned company operating in Rep. Miller-Meeks’ district, Phelps represents the type of regional employer that connects local jobs, business growth and reliable service for healthcare facilities, manufacturers, restaurants, small businesses and other customers that depend on clean, consistent textile and facility service programs.

During the visit, Rep. Miller-Meeks toured the facility and discussed the operational, workforce and policy issues facing commercial laundries and uniform service providers. The conversation highlighted how companies like Phelps invest in equipment, employees, route infrastructure and compliance systems to serve customers safely and efficiently.

The visit also reinforced the connection between federal policy and district-level business operations. Issues such as tax treatment for processing facilities, workforce availability, healthcare textile policy, environmental regulation and supply chain resilience all have direct implications for companies that employ local workers and support other businesses throughout the region.

Rep. Miller-Meeks currently represents Iowa’s First Congressional District, which includes much of southeastern Iowa. Her visit provided an important opportunity to show how the industry contributes to communities like Muscatine, not only as an employer, but as part of the infrastructure that keeps workplaces, healthcare providers and local businesses running.
