With sessions a week apart on consecutive July Thursdays at 1 p.m. EDT, TRSA’s Health & Safety Summit begins July 16 on Zoom. That day’s presentation topic, titled “Avoiding and Addressing Conflict and Violence,” features law enforcement and security professionals.

Employees can be at high risk from their colleagues’ mental health challenges pressing them outside the workplace. Domestic violence and substance abuse can be manifested in threats at work, in ways as deadly as firearm use there. This session enables you to equip leaders and employees with practical strategies to recognize warning signs, respond appropriately and manage conflict in ways that promote safety, trust and accountability.

Ryan Tucker (pictured above, right), summit presenter and TRSA Safety Committee member, is an account executive at Secure Passage, Kansas City, MO. He helps organizations navigate the intersection of physical and digital security through proactive, intelligence-led solutions. Among these is the company’s workplace behavioral threat assessment portfolio.

He has more than 20 years of experience in technology, cybersecurity, strategic sourcing, business development, and physical security. Previously, in his role as chief technology officer and VP in retail, he implemented security monitoring practices. Prior to that role, his consulting group advised clients on physical security planning, saferoom design, armored vehicles, reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicles and security equipment sourcing.

The other presenter of this session, Steve Spurlock, is training director for Safehaven Security Group, Rogers, AR. The firm protects clients’ people, other top assets and brands by creating safe environments through strong partnerships with its team of security experts, customized training and professional consulting solutions.

Spurlock (pictured above, left) has more than 20 years of experience in law enforcement, corporate security and emergency management. His career spans counter-terrorism liaison work, aviation security, custody operations, workplace violence prevention and executive protection. In both the public and private sectors, he has developed and delivered training in active assailant survival, threat response and defensive tactics.

A certified threat analyst, he instructs in active shooter response tactics, has trained in arrest control and defensive tactics. He advises clients in conducting investigations and developing security programs that balance prevention, preparedness and resilience.
