A recent survey of Hygienically Clean Healthcare-certified and HLAC-accredited laundry operators found that only 20% of acute and nonacute healthcare requests for proposal (RFPs) require certification/accreditation with any preference for either program. The survey will be used as a baseline as TRSA rolls out an outreach program during the next 18 months to decisionmakers and influencers touting the value of Hygienically Clean certification and reusable textiles.
“We invest nearly 25% of all revenues from the Hygienically Clean certification programs back into promoting our industry’s commitment to hygiene, cost-effectiveness, as well as the environmental and supply-chain sustainability of reusable textiles,” said TRSA President and CEO Joseph Ricci. “We will be doubling this investment during the next 18 months with the message of requiring third-party validated Hygienically Clean certification in all RFPs for increased safety for patients and others.”
The survey did identify increased inclusion of Hygienically Clean Healthcare certification requirements in RFPs in the Northeast and West. This was likely attributable to the educational efforts of companies that are exclusively Hygienically Clean certified such as Emerald Textiles and Unitex Healthcare Laundry Services.
The campaign, which will launch in August, includes an investment of nearly $500,000 over 18 months on sponsorship, trade shows, speaking, advertising and earned media, as well as marketing materials for certified facilities, in targeted outlets that reach decisionmakers and influencers promoting the inclusion of Hygienically Clean Healthcare and Food Safety in RFPs in acute/nonacute healthcare and food manufacturing/processing.
The Hygienically Clean programs recently received an NPS score of 65 when certified facilities were asked if they would recommend these programs. The survey also produced testimonials and comments from participants including why they chose Hygienically Clean certification. Respondents noted the following:
- “We have annual inspections from some of our hospitals. They are being asked more and more often if their linen supplier is healthcare certified. I felt even though it was not a requirement at this time, it was coming, and we should get in front of it if we are going to continue to service healthcare.”
- “We are actively growing our presence in the healthcare market and this certification shows that we are serious about protecting our customers and our employees.”
- “Our partnership with key accounts was a contributing factor. Additionally, we needed the certification to attract new customers.”
