One of the highlights of the TRSA Regional Production Summits is the opportunity for attendees to tour other facilities. The Northeast Production Summit, conveniently located at the Newark Liberty International Airport Marriott in Newark, NJ, will run from Oct. 15-16. On the second day, attendees will have the chance to tour two different facilities in the Newark area.

American Wear Inc. in East Orange, NJ, founded in 1951, processes 150,000 pounds of industrial laundry per week. The facility, 110 years old, has a unique layout with two separate buildings. The 20,000-square-foot first building is used for processing, while the second 40,000-square-foot building is for sorting and quality control. The buildings are connected by an above-street bridge for employee and garment movement.

Unitex Healthcare Laundry Services specializes in providing medical uniforms and linen rental services to the healthcare industry. The 68,000-square-foot Linden, NJ, facility, established in June 2016, processes an impressive 50 million pounds of textiles annually. This plant services bulk acute-healthcare items for extended-care facilities. Equipped with two tunnel washers, the plant features a fully automated washer and dryer system. Additionally, it utilizes overhead rail systems in both soiled and clean linen areas, ensuring efficient and streamlined operations.

The Northeast Regional Production Summit is the third in this series. Attendees of the West Coast and Midwest Summits gave a Net Promoter Score (NPS) of 71 for the events. NPS measures attendees’ willingness to recommend an event, with a score of 50 considered excellent. The Summit offers a combination of soft skills such as leadership development and emotional intelligence, along with practical operational issues including fire prevention and preventative maintenance. The sessions were curated from past summit recommendations, job analysis and input from industry leaders.

When asked about his takeaways from the West Coast Summit, first-time attendee Francisco Garcia, plant manager at Medical Healthcare Linen Service, said, “What I have learned here so far, and am thrilled about learning, is measuring myself as a new plant manager with my company to see what everyone else in the industry is doing and compare to where we can learn to keep growing and accomplish new things in my plant when I arrive back at the facility.” Other attendees noted that personalized presentations provide relevant content and the interactive group activities stand out as a highlight of the summit.
