The July 23 session in TRSA’s three-part Health and Safety Summit webinar series features a firm that has trained more than 100,000 drivers in skills to get them home safely each day. The presentation will testify to the value of using a variety of fleet safety program types in your business and law enforcement expertise in structuring these programs.

Judie Nuskey, operations director, Advanced Driver Training Services, Warminster, PA, will draw on this expertise in the presentation. All ADTS trainers have law enforcement backgrounds. Collectively they have responded to and evaluated thousands of crashes, steadily enhancing their capability to prevent them.

ADTS recommends deploying these fleet safety training program types, among others:

Post-Incident. Can be especially powerful when driver behavior data from telematics, phone apps and motor vehicle records are incorporated in the training. Alternatives for managing the aftermath of incidents (crash, ticket, violation) are identified – often including instruction in advanced safe driving techniques. A paper trail is created for human resources and legal teams that can be useful if driving behavior doesn’t improve.

Skill Enhancement. Especially valuable for new hires or existing employees who haven’t had any advanced driver training. Viewed as best for lowering crash rates (drivers retain taught concepts best). Training highlights dangers of daily driving and presents national and company-specific crash stats. Possible topics include emergency braking and steering and mastery in moving a vehicle in reverse.

Ride-Along. Aimed at medium and high-risk drivers. They are typically only about 1% – 3% of drivers but they likely create liability nightmares if not dealt with quickly, especially if the driver is involved in any type of crash. A must for those who have experienced multiple incidents within a year and driving behavior hasn’t improved. The rider observes positive habits and instructs on modifying negative ones.

ADTS is a member of TRSA partner NAFA, the Fleet Management Association; the Network of Employers for Traffic Safety; and the American Fleet Learning Association. Nuskey’s audiences (mostly commercial and corporate organizations) praise her creative ability and fresh perspectives on fleet operations. Her talks have helped them maintain, improve, optimize, develop and implement visions and goals that maximize safety.

The summit consists of webinars on three consecutive Thursdays in July (16, 23 and 30), providing linen, uniform and facility services operators with hands-on exploration of industry trends, key issues and proven techniques for building a strong safety culture.

The July 16 presentation covers avoiding and addressing conflict and violence; July 30, certifying workplace safety proficiency.

Each presentation takes place from 1 to 2:15 p.m. EDT. Register here for the series. Registrants receive a personalized login link from TRSA’s Zoom account for use on a single device each day.
