Cintas Corp. recently announced that its Pittsburgh uniform rental location received Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Star certification from the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). The Pittsburgh facility is the 26th Cintas’ location in the nation to receive VPP designation since 2011, according to a news release.

“We are extremely proud of our Pittsburgh employee-partners and their managers for earning the esteemed OSHA VPP Star award,” said Rick Gerlach, Cintas’ senior director of safety and health. “In order to earn this recognition, our management and front-line partners worked closely together toward the common goal of every partner going home to their loved ones at the end of the work day safe and healthy. Our partners look forward to mentoring neighboring companies to protect the safety and health of their employees and achieve safety excellence.”

In addition to the Pittsburgh VPP recognition, three of the company’s locations in Canada recently received Certificates of Recognition (COR) under the Canadian Federation of Construction Safety Associations (CFCSA) and the Infrastructure Health and Safety Association (IHSA). COR is a volunteer management system for the reduction of human and financial costs of workplace incidents, injuries and illnesses, according to another news release. Cintas’ locations in Lindsay; Toronto (a distribution center); and Torlake, Ontario, are the first locations in Canada’s Ontario province to earn this honor, the release said.

“We are extremely proud of our Canadian employee-partners for earning the esteemed COR certification,” said James Dawe, group vice president for the Eastern Canada Group. “The most important requirement for earning COR is demonstrating an ongoing effort of location management and front-line partners working together toward the common goal of eliminating workplace injuries and illnesses.”

Cintas has approximately 330 facilities worldwide actively pursuing VPP recognition by OSHA or the equivalent under a similar certifying body. This includes operations in the U.S., Canada, the United Kingdom, Mexico and Honduras, the release said.
