June 1: Final GHS Deadline

The final deadline for the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS) is coming on June 1, and all textile services industry operator and supplier companies should be in full compliance by that date, according to a recent article.

By June 1, OSHA says that companies are required to “update alternative workplace labeling and hazard communication programs as necessary, and provide additional employee training for newly identified physical or health hazards.” Therefore, employers must have workplace labeling and hazard communication programs up to date (including replacing all Material Safety Data Sheet-formatted documents with the newer Safety Data Sheet-formatted documents). Additional training also must be conducted for newly identified physical and/or health hazards, the article said.
