In recent years, Milliken & Co., Spartanburg, SC, has regularly received safety honors from groups such as EHS Today magazine, which publishes an oft-cited list of “America’s Safest Companies” each year. In 2017, Milliken made that list for the third time, but EHS Today went a step further by naming Milliken as the first company to its new America’s Safest Companies Hall of Fame, according to a news release.

“The safety and health of all Milliken associates are of primary foundational importance to our company,” said J. Harold Chandler, CEO, president and chairman of the board of Milliken. “To be named among America’s Safest Companies upholds Milliken’s legacy of safety and honors the ongoing commitment of our associates to create a safe working environment.”

Milliken devotes resources to train associates to:

  • Perform their jobs safely
  • Ensure that employees operate equipment safely
  • Eliminate workplace hazards, and
  • Comply with applicable safety and health laws and regulations.

Milliken’s commitment to these values has enabled it to achieve one of the lowest total incident and injury rates among North American manufacturers. It’s also one of the three top U.S. companies for the number of sites receiving the OSHA Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Star certification for excellence in safety and incident prevention, the release said.
