Service Linen Supply Inc. Co-Owners Bob Raphael and David Jassny unveiled the Pellerin Milnor Corp. 250-lb. continuous batch industrial washer at the company’s Renton, WA, facility on Nov. 28.

The 79-foot-long Milnor PulseFlow® washer weighs 50,000 lbs. and is designed to significantly reduce the amount of water the plant requires from the city of Renton's aquifer. The machine also decreases the amount of energy needed to clean tons of linen.

Raphael, who touted the new piece of equipment as the “mother of all washing machines,” said the purchase of the $1-million washer was a risk, but he said his business has always been environmentally conscious. "We know it will greatly benefit both our business and the environment," Raphael said. “It’s truly amazing.”

The washer produces 250 lbs. of laundry every two minutes and 33 seconds. In doing so, it uses a third of the water that traditional washing machines use, saving 17 million to 20 million gallons of water annually. The company saves on energy costs, including electricity and natural gas, mainly because it has less water to heat in the cleaning process.
