TRSA Webinar Highlights Survey Results

TRSA recently hosted a webinar titled “What Motivates Textile Services Customers,” sponsored by the association’s Marketing & PR Committee. The hour-long presentation took a close look at two recent national surveys completed by TRSA that found that the majority of businesses and consumers prefer that employees wear uniforms.

Jim Ruth, regional sales manager, Mountville Mills Inc., LaGrange, GA; and Megan Ashburn, assistant marketing manager, Cintas Corp., Mason, OH, presented the information to listeners. Both are members of TRSA’s Marketing & PR Committee.

Surveying both textile services decisionmakers and consumers nationwide, TRSA found 82% of businesses reported a preference for employees wearing uniforms, while 86% of consumers across the service, healthcare, hospitality and restaurant sectors preferred uniforms as well. Both national surveys found significant business growth opportunities for textile services providers across several industries. For example:

  • Nearly half of all healthcare workers clean their uniforms at home, despite 68% of consumers reporting they are concerned seeing scrubs and other medical uniforms outside of a healthcare facility.
  • One in three hotels reported a preference for outsourcing linen services, but can’t locate a textile services provider.
  • Fifty-seven percent of the most affluent and frequent diners preferred restaurants using table linens and would pay more for meals at restaurants that use them.

The two surveys were conducted by Fabrizio Ward, an opinion research and consulting firm based in Fort Lauderdale, FL. The business-to-business survey was conducted across the healthcare, hospitality, food and beverage, and industrial sectors. Consumers were asked for their views on textile-related issues with healthcare, hospitality, and food and beverage businesses.

TRSA’s next webinar presentation, titled “Understanding the DOL’s Final Rule on Overtime,” is scheduled for Wednesday, June 1, from 2-3 p.m. EST. Alex Passantino, the former administrator for the Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division, will host the webinar. Registration is free for TRSA members.
